PREPARATION
Please prepare a brief song in the style of bluegrass/country/muppet show/musical theatre or any combination of those styles. An accompanist will be provided.

BREAKDOWN
Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
WENDELL PORCUPINE (Character is Male 18+ to play teen.) Emmet’s best friend, a bit on the simple side, who speaks as if he has a stuffy nose. Puppetry experience a plus. Baritone. May understudy the lead role of Emmet Otter.

HARVEY BEAVER (Character is Male 18+ to play teen.) Good buddy of Emmet, and the self-appointed leader of the jug-band. Puppetry experience a plus. Baritone/Tenor. May understudy the lead role of Emmet Otter.

CHARLIE MUSKRAT (Character is Male-identifying or Non-Binary 18+ to play teen.) The youngest of Emmet’s pals, Charlie’s voice hasn’t changed, and he’s the most eager to form a jug band and enter the talent show. High falsetto. Puppetry experience a plus. May understudy the lead role of Emmet Otter.

GRETCHEN FOX / AS CAST (Character is Female 30s – 50s) Wife to Mayor Fox and first lady of the town of Waterville. Secretly Gretchen plans to not only enter the talent contest and show off her classical vocal training, but also serve as a judge. High operatic soprano with belt. Puppetry experience/skills REQUIRED.

MAYOR FOX / AS CAST (Character Male 30s – 50s) Nimble and funny. Multiple roles. Takes himself very seriously as mayor and the emcee of the talent show. Great comic timing, ability to be dry. Baritone/Tenor. Puppetry experience a plus.

MRS MINK/ MADAME SQUIRREL (Character is Female 30s – 50s) Mrs. Mink is the very proper proprietor of the town's music store, who at the talent show gets carried away by the spotlight and performs a fierce bump and grind. Madame Squirrel is the stage mother to a scurry of acrobatic squirrels. Think Mama Rose with a tail. Mezzo with big belt. Puppetry experience a plus. Interested in drag performers.

UNDERSTUDY 1/ AS CAST - will understudy Wendell, Harvey, Charlie, and Mayor Fox. Puppetry experience a plus.

UNDERSTUDY 2/ AS CAST - will understudy Gretchen Fox, Mrs Mink/Madame Squirrel, and Ma Otter. Puppetry experience a plus.
